Steam network optimalisation of producer and supplier of seed and tropical oils Bunge Loders Croklaan

An oiled steam net for Bunge Loders Croklaan! Many food and non-food products today incorporate vegetable oils and fats. They add flavor to food and are also functional in nature. One of the world’s best-known producers and suppliers of seed and tropical oils is Bunge Loders Croklaan. This Dutch-American company, based in Wormerveer and on Rotterdam’s Maasvlakte, asked us to evaluate the measurements of the steam network and issue an optimization recommendation. But of course!

Seed and tropical oils: a good alternative?

Bunge Loders Croklaan produces and processes palm oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil and rapeseed oil, among others. These oils are suitable for a very wide range of edible end products. For example, soups, sauces, baby food, dough and pet food. But vegetable oils are also a good alternative for non-food products. How about biofuel for your car? Or the cozy sustainable candles you light at night? They are there thanks to the innovation techniques within the vegetable oil industry.

Keeping production up to speed

Now we would like to take you into another story: the production process of Bunge Loders Croklaan. In this production process, steam plays an essential role. For example, steam is used to heat production processes, generate electricity, keep stored goods warm and even heat various buildings. Multifunctional, such a steam system.

But what is the efficiency of the steam system? What is the cost of steam production? Is the energy from steam production used optimally? And is the capacity of the steam network properly dimensioned? Bunge Loders Croklaan knocked on our door with these questions.

Mapping → evaluating → optimizing

Step 1 was to map the measurements of the steam network. From that analysis, we were able to evaluate the current system from A to Z. All of this was quickly nailed down by Nicolai Vermeulen, process engineer at DWG. He already has a lot of experience with plant processes and was therefore the right person for this job. Together with Bunge Loders Croklaan, Nicolai wrote a plan of action. The goal of this plan? That was to ensure the operational reliability of the steam system and to identify opportunities for further optimization of the steam network. This gives Bunge Loders Croklaan all the tools needed to take steps forward.

Our customer's satisfaction

“Throughout this project Nicolai has worked well with the various people at Bunge Loders Croklaan and ensured that a good report was produced that we can in turn take further actions on. We are satisfied with DWG’s approach.”
