NEN3140 inspection for Evides Industriewater. At Evides Industriewater, you knock on the door for … yes, you guessed it: industrial water. In the Benelux, Evides Industriewater has established itself as the leading partner for water. With a focus on the chemical, petrochemical and food industries. A major player in other words, with installations throughout the Netherlands. We were asked to perform the 5-yearly NEN3140 inspection of the electrical installation at their Albemarle facility in Amsterdam. Spoiler alert: the installation is ready for another 5 years of operation!
What is industry water?
‘Ordinary’ drinking water is too expensive, too clean or not clean enough for many industrial processes. So Evides processes the water to a stage suitable for use in industry. Demineralised water, for example, raw water or process water. These water solutions are produced by Evides Industriewater at facilities throughout the Netherlands, including the facility in Albemarle. The installation at that location was due for its periodic NEN3140 inspection. Read on for details of how we tackled this assignment.
NEN3140 inspection & crystal clear advice
NEN3140 is the Dutch standard for low-voltage electrical installations. Based on the principle of ‘prevention is better than cure’, we inspected the installation from top to bottom. This involved carrying out several measurements and tests. After analysing the outcomes, we advised Evides Industriewater on the functionality and security of the electrical installation.
So what did we do exactly?
- We performed a spot-point inspection according to NEN3140 guidelines. In two days we visually inspected 6 control panels and 4 frequency inverters.
- We also tested 2 workstations, 2 pumps and 7 residual current circuit breakers for functionality and effectiveness, by performing measurements and tests.
- Recap: a total of 12 visual inspections and 21 measurements were carried out. A total of 24 residual issues were found. Evides included these residual issues in the maintenance work schedule.
The result
Great! No major or dangerous conditions or situations were discovered during the inspection. In fact, the electrical installation is (and was) in very good condition. We wrote a number of reports and protocols based on our inspections. Evides Industriewater will use these outcomes as guidelines for internal staff when carrying out regular maintenance and updating the installation during the next 5 years. Pretty efficient, right?
