The Nieuwe Warmteweg is assured of reliable automation for the next 15 years. All 26 kilometres of it. This underground pipe network (Rozenburg ↔ Rotterdam-Zuid) transports residual heat. Residual heat from the Port of Rotterdam to be exact. Businesses and households just down the road are the final destination for this heat energy. What a great idea: reusing so much energy like this! The pipe network is fully automated. And we have been asked to maintain this automation system. For the next 15 years!
Truly a new path in heating
A significant amount of heat is released by industrial processes in the Port of Rotterdam. It would be a shame to let that heat just dissipate, right? That was why Warmtebedrijf Rotterdam decided to build the Nieuwe Warmteweg. These pipes transport residual heat from industry to homes and businesses a little further down the road where it can be put to good use for space heating.
The immense pipe installation was installed by Pipeline Control. They are the leading experts in piping and complex mechanical engineering work. And they approached us for maintaining the automation system, and the E&I and ICT aspects. As a result, automation of the Nieuwe Warmteweg is in safe hands for the next 15 years!
One thing at a time
The automation maintenance work is spread over a number of years. We use a number of time cycles to ensure that each station and component gets the attention and care it needs. Based on the individual components, we determine whether only maintenance is needed, or complete replacement.
To keep everything nice and clear, we have drawn up an annual maintenance plan. The plan identifies which components need attention and when. We also report all our work to Pipeline Control so that they can keep their customer (Warmtebedrijf Rotterdam) informed at all times. We are proud of our team and this excellent collaboration!
