Forbo Eurocol, based in Wormermeer, is known for its tile adhesives, grouts, levelling compounds and adhesives for floor and wall coverings. Forbo Eurocol supplies products all over the world. To facilitate large-scale production, the factory has been expanded to include an extra mixing system. DWG provided all the hardware and software modifications.

A brand-new, advanced mixing system for Forbo Eurocol Netherlands

The new system’s job is to mix UV paints. Forbo Eurocol did not just purchase any old system: the new mixer is a highly sophisticated tool. The disc in the mixer is hydraulically adjustable in height, up to 80 centimetres. This allows you to match the settings exactly to the amount of paint you want to mix.

Installing the new mixer was hardly a walk in the park. In fact, putting the new installation in place was a hell of a job. It required two cranes and holes even had to be cut in the roof so that the new mixing installation could be lowered onto its foundations. What was DWG’s role in this project? We were asked

to get all the hardware and software modifications done well before the new mixer was installed. So what exactly did those modifications entail? Read on for the details.

Hardware-related tasks

Mixing obviously has to take place in complete safety. So the lid is equipped with ATEX field instrumentation components. We also installed two control cabinets outside the ATEX zone. These cabinets were supplied with the mixing installation and we installed the wiring. Jac. de Vries Elektrotechniek handled installation, assembly and the connections. Teamwork, pure and simple!

We also installed a RIO cabinet. Just outside the ATEX zone, to keep the cable distance as short as possible. This RIO cabinet is connected to the existing PLC cabinet via Profinet. The MCC cabinet is also an existing cabinet that provides all the energy supplies. We replaced the analogue energy meters in this cabinet with a digital energy meter.

Software-related tasks

The days of analogue measuring instruments are truly behind us. So we replaced the five analogue meters with a single Siemens PAC3200 system. The advantage of this new energy meter? That is that you can read it both locally and through the HMI (Human Machine Interface).

Our software engineers also dealt with the following:

  • The addition of an extra mixer with remote IO;
  • Integration of a new weighing process on the free and available Siwarex module on the existing IO and
  • Integration of an energy measurement process using Profinet communication.

The customer’s experience

“We were delighted with the quality of the collaboration with DWG and Jac. de Vries Elektrotechniek in this project. The additional work was also tackled quickly. I am happy with the result!”

Engel Zonneveld, Project Leader, Forbo Eurocol
